12/15/2023 0 Comments Steam workshop team fortress 2 weaponsQ: Where can I get the models of the existing characters so I can build my item in context?Ī: Download this zip file which contains the reference head geometry for all the classes on the right locations. Character items/hats should match that style. Character textures are less noisy/detailed than everything else in the game. For hats, maintain team colors, if not - neutral colors. For hats, 256x256 is usually large enough.Ī: Maintain the same texture density of other models in the world (Nothing higher res or lower res than what's next to it. Q: What resolution should my textures be?Ī: Texture sizes should not be larger than 512x512. Try to keep hats under 1,000 polygons, and weapons under 6,500. Q: What are the polycount limits on my item?Ī: Keep the polycount similar to what's already in the game. Q: I am a 3D artist, how do I get started?Ī: First, you’ll need to install the Source Developer Kit (SDK). XSI (models, textures, skeletons, morphs, animation).3DS-Max (models, textures, skeletons, morphs, animation).Zbrush (detail models, morphs and textures).Maya (models, textures, skeletons, morphs, animation).Q: What software tool should I use to make my item?Ī: It varies depending upon the project, but this is generally what workshop contributors use: Use a subtle vertical gradient and a subtle ambient occlusion layers multiplied over the colors.Try and avoid full black, full white, or fully saturated colors. Try and use flat colors that are close to the TF color family that the base game uses.Take a look at giant size of the TF characters hands and imagine what they would build. No scales, skin pores, fabric textures, super detailed normals, etc. TF generally has realistic proportions, with slightly exaggerated aspects to emphasize certain areas.Hats should maintain the personality of the character (heavy's boxing Gloves, Scout's batter's helmet, etc.).Clearly the art style has evolved over the years, but here are some guidelines that you should keep in mind as you create your items. Nothing too modern, hyper-realistic or overly “cartoony”. When we started, the game followed an idealized 1950’s-60’s Americana look. Q: What are some guidelines for matching TF2’s art style and improving the chances of my item getting in?Ī: This is a tricky question we grapple with daily. There are a lot of digital art communities online with great information. Q: Where can I find good tutorials to learn 3D modeling?Ī: Search for “speed modeling” on YouTube and visit the source developer wiki.

I’m still in weekly contact with the co-founder, Carol Rowell. Those groups moved into exploring the creation of a women’s studies program and then the committee was formed July 1970. My friend Patti told me about the consciousness-raising groups the women had started and she wanted me to go. I entered San Diego State College in the spring of 1967. Q: Can you talk about your introduction to feminism, specifically in identifying as a feminist?Ī: My mother was an actress and her actress friends called themselves “the dirty dozen.” I went to Rosary High, an all-girls Catholic high school. I get an idea of something I want to say, then I figure out how to build it. We learned to craft ideas rather than materials. When I started at San Diego State, there was a great group of students and wonderful professors. My first drawing teacher told me that I started his class with a degree of talent, but I was leaving with the same amount of talent. I graduated early and started Mesa College on the first day the campus opened in February 1964. He ran into my art teacher who told him I needed to go to college. When my father went to find out if I had enough credits to graduate, they told him I didn’t even need to be there, I had more than enough credits. For most of us, this was our first experience with public school. My senior year, about five or six of us left Rosary to go to Hoover High. She told me to keep all my drawings and date them. My mother asked my aunt, Zona, who was an artist, to look at my drawings. My parents were alcoholics, and I found peace in drawing the faces of girls crying. He was a bartender in high-end restaurants. 2 pencil on the card stock that came from my father’s starched shirts. I would spend hours in my room drawing with a regular No. One day, when I was 14 and a freshman at Rosary, a girl next to me was drawing and she used her finger to produce shade. What was your introduction to art making?Ī: My dad and I would make clay figures and study nature, like rocks and tropical fish. Q: You’ve been working as an artist for 50 years. She took some time to talk about “Glimmers of Grace,” her interest in the way people are informed by their spiritual imaginations, and the time she marched during the Civil Rights Movement. Gray-Adams, 77, lives in Solana Beach and has four children. 26 at the Mesa College art gallery, she will also give a talk from 5 to 6 p.m. As part of the exhibition, on display through Oct. Inspired by wanting to find the “glimmers of grace” in everyday life, the pieces reflect her feminist point of view - from honoring girls who suffered the abuse of a priest in the Catholic Church, to the raw wedding night perspectives from different brides, she approaches her work with fearlessness and a pride in her womanhood. From earning degrees in sculpture from San Diego State University, to teaching art and computer graphics at a number of local colleges, she brings a selection of artwork she’s created from 1976 to the present in “Glimmers of Grace.” Artist Grace Gray-Adams returned to San Diego Mesa College this month in a display of her artwork on the campus where she was among the school’s first students when it opened in the 1960s. 12/15/2023 0 Comments Symone drag race on drag her“I just feel like, ‘We can’t let them do that to us.’ But it’s a very hard time. “That’s warranted, that’s very valid,” she says. The queen is quick to clarify that the change in the atmosphere isn’t affecting her itinerary: “Is that going to deter me from going home and doing drag or going to the South and doing drag? Absolutely not.” Still, she notes that several of her sisters have begun avoiding drag performances in certain parts of the country because they don’t want to risk their safety by becoming “a focal point” for outraged - and perhaps even violent - people. “It’s heavier, much more than it was when I was growing up… I felt safe enough to go to prom in drag 10 years ago, and I was like, ‘I don’t know if I could do that now.’ It feels more conservative than it did even 10 years ago. I felt like there’s a contention there,” Symone says of a recent visit to her home state. While the regressive laws aren’t exactly quashing expression in queer meccas like WeHo, Symone knows that other communities aren’t so lucky. She’ll walk the Met Gala one month, pop up in a music video (“Simple Times”) from Nashville singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves the next, all while continuing to chart a course through Los Angeles nightlife via the House of Avalon collective. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is what’s missing in my life.’ ”Īs one of the drag queens to be catapulted into cultural consciousness by the hit reality competition, Symone continues to operate by her own rules. “It gave me permission to be myself,” she says of the art form. By 18, she left the house in drag for the first time - to attend her senior prom.Ī stint at a club on amateur night followed a few months later, and she’s been doing drag ever since. Growing up in Conway, Arkansas, the self-described “shy, reserved kid” began doing her own makeup after school around age 16. “Ultimately, they don’t want people to feel that they can express themselves and be different - or that there’s a different way of living outside of the norm.”Īn urge to break out of the box was exactly what brought Symone to drag in the first place. It’s easier than dealing with what’s actually going on in the country,” she continues. Gay people, trans people, our whole community has always been an easy mark. 12/15/2023 0 Comments Section 8 housing open waiting listTo apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to complete the online application. The calf stays with mother for around three years. The calf begins grazing at two months, weaning occurs at around one year of age. Mother and calf become inseparable the calf usually moves in front of its mother and immediately responds to the mother’s behavior. Calves stand up within one hour, immediately attempting to suckle. The interval between calving is 3-4 years. Females usually give birth for the first time at the age of 6.5-7 years. White rhino have a gestation period of approximately 16 months. The Southern white rhino can be found mostly in South Africa, with smaller translocated populations found in Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe White rhinos are surprisingly agile and can run very fast, up to 40 km/h for short periods. In Laikipia, the mud bath can range from a ochre red to a dark shade of brown. After wallowing, the visual color of the animal inevitably matches the color of the local soil. Rhinos tend to wallow in the mud, which serves as a cooling technique, effective sun insect repellent. Rhinos are distinct in that they look very prehistoric they are the modern day dinosaur. The front horn is usually much larger than the inner horn. White rhinos have two horns on the end of their nose. The head hangs down, low to the ground they look up only when alarmed. The white rhinos outline is characterized by a pronounced hump. It has a bigger head, due to the muscles that support its neck, as the animal feeds from the ground with its head lowered for much of the day. The white rhino is the larger of the two African species. Tropical and Subtropical Grasslands, Savannas, and Shrublands The baby rhino can also be “Zoodopted”! Proceeds from the auction and Zoodoptions will be donated to the Zoo’s conservation partner, the International Rhino Foundation, which provides support for land protection, the translocation of rhinos to more suitable habitats in Africa, and work being done to end the trade in rhino horns.South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda The public can place bids on the calf’s name through July 30. The Zoo will be auctioning off the naming rights for the baby rhino to raise funds for rhino conservation. Zina was paired with Sibindi through the Species Survival Plan (SSP) through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to ensure the survival of these protected species. This species remains classified as near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN) due to threats in the wild due to habitat loss and illegal poaching of their horns. Sibindi and Bora will have access to both the barn and their outdoor habitat. Mom and baby will stay indoors for Keepers to monitor the two and their bond over the next several weeks. Zina and her calf can be seen in the rhino’s night barn. Sibindi, 18, Zina, 8, Bora, 7, and now the new male calf. This brings the rhino count to four at the Zoo. 12/15/2023 0 Comments Skim over old textureWhile the builders loved the speed of drywall the public felt a general unease with such a cheap and quick product even though they were clamoring for quick, affordable housing. The sheets are screwed onto the studs and the seams taped and bedded with more gypsum which is cured and ready for paint in just a couple days. Unlike plaster which is traditionally made of slaked lime and san, drywall was made from gypsum sandwiched between layers of paper. Relatively unskilled laborers were needed to screw the drywall into place cutting production times down dramatically and opening up the labor pool massively to almost any able bodied man with a drill. A new form of wall covering called “drywall” aptly names because unlike plaster it was applied dry became immediately popular with builders. The need for quick, affordable housing butted heads with the artisan trade of plastering that required years of training, and even with that resulted in slow to be applied and even slower to cure plaster walls and ceilings. The old ways of building were replaced with the assembly line which was implemented in places like Levittown, New York with stunning efficiency. After WWII the baby boom caused America to need a lot of housing and quickly. Why did we ever stop using plaster you may ask. They were slow and expensive to install, but extremely durable and beautiful. Years ago houses were built with plaster walls that were typically hand troweled 3-coats thick, required a skilled plasterer, and took up to 30 days to cure before being ready for painting. 12/15/2023 0 Comments Starbound 2015 agustI imagine it would’ve taken me a lot longer to complete the first quest to repair your ship on Normal difficulty, given that it it requires 20 planetary core fragments, which obviously are only found near the planet’s core. So naturally I’ve been abusing that setup to dig myself down to the very cores of planets, and when I wanted to go back to the surface, I’d just impale myself on a stalagmite, take a lava bath, or burrow down into the bottomless pit of the planet’s core. I’m not sure what Hardcore difficulty entails, but the only difference between Casual and Normal is that in Casual you don’t lose any items when you die, you just lose 30% of your Pixels, which are the in-game currency. Given that I was new to the game, I played on Casual difficulty. There’s more options than just race, of course, you can change the color of almost every part of your character as well. For the Florans, which is what I picked, it was because I was “tired of Floran savagery, and in search of a more honorable hunt.” I chose the little flower people, and it even gives a race-specific reason as to why you’re started off floating in space in a damaged ship. There’s lots of variety in the character creation. It felt like playing Metroid or Mega Man or something like that. My best ones were found either roving around and exploring, or during the first mission I played, which was complete with a huge boss fight and some background lore. In fact, I think I only had one weapon I used that I actually made. And on the off chance they did, I had a giant hammer to bash their heads in with. When I went down to the surface, I was greeted by a massive pile of bones, a bed that looked like maybe it was supposed to be some sort of altar, given its proximity to a fire, and two or three people carrying spears and wearing bone masks that immediately decided they wanted to stab me.įortunately by this time I’d found a rifle that shoots electricity, so they weren’t able to get close enough to me to do any real damage. I died.Īnother planet I found was described by the ship’s computer as having an arid, dusty environment. He told me I had one warning, and that I should leave. When I explored the desert planet, I found some sort of base, made out of indestructible materials, and with guards that were none to happy to see me. My forest moon had an abandoned mine in it – I explored, but the only alien life I found were angry creatures that wanted to eat me. And this desert planet wasn’t empty like my little forest moon was. The planet I started out on was a dense forest planet, but upon repairing my ship to be capable of space travel, I discovered that this planet was merely a moon orbiting a larger desert planet. The game world (or game worlds?) also have a ton of variety. Shortly after leaving whatever planet you started on, you come into contact with an outpost full of NPCs, many of which have quests for you to complete. And another thing I like is that the world doesn’t necessarily feel empty. Press the ‘C’ key to bring up a list of all the things you can currently craft – it will tell you what you need, your only task is to find those things. However, one of the things that I liked better about it than the two aforementioned games is that Starbound actually gives you quests and direction. You can dig up blocks, build things, craft new items, etc. On the surface, it just looks like “ Minecraft in space” (or perhaps more accurately, Terraria in space, although Terraria was often referred to as “2D Minecraft”). It feels like a fully finished, fleshed-out game. Maybe I’m just bad at noticing things though. It’s currently in beta right now, but I didn’t actually notice that until I noticed an announcement on the launcher screen saying it was in beta. Somehow or another I ended up with a copy of Starbound, and I feel like this might be one of the few exceptions to the rule. They’re generally buggy, half-finished, or their early access and/or beta periods just extend almost indefinitely and they end up becoming overly-complicated games that make you feel as if you need to start taking college classes about them in order to understand how to play them (*cough* Minecraft*cough*). So I usually don’t bother with early access games, or games that are only in beta testing. |
